Still #latergram-ing from 2022….El Salvador for some remote work! I posted up for a week in El Zonte, most of it at puro_surf hotel and surf academy. No, I didn’t do any surfing (the waves, at least that time of year, are not for surf novices!) but I did manage to get in some morning beach walks before my “office” hours. While the internet wasn’t nearly as reliable as San Miguel de Allende, the food was tasty, the coffee was incredible and the views from my various “desks” weren’t bad!
El Zonte does not have a lot going on and was more rustic than I was expecting. It’s a great place if you surf and like doing nothing - great chill vibes with a few decent food spots and smoothie shops. Great pupusas (but that’s pretty much all of El Salvador) and friendly locals. Not much nightlife to speak of and not easy to get to other parts of El Salvador without a car. On the weekend days I was there, I did get away from the coast for a few hikes (more to come on those) but for the most part, I stayed in El Zonte and worked in either my cool hotel room or beach restaurants, mostly covanakitchen which was delightful!
Also I had no problem getting up early - there was a daily 6am wake up call from the mobile “grocery store” on the back of a truck as it drove around town playing loud announcements about their daily specials over a loudspeaker. Took me a few days to figure out what all the yelling was about 😂
